Carla L. Pichay in a bid to support the education of the learners in this new normal.
To date, July 7, 2020, the Municipality of Cantilan during the special meeting of the Municipal Local School Boards and the town mayor Hon. Carla Lopez Pichay pledged to realign the Special Education Fund (SEF) amounting to P 3, 781, 854 out of 4, 420, 854. The digitalization as part of alternative learning delivery modality was anchored on the Learning Continuity Plan (LCP) of Cantilan schools.
The LCP of DepEd as reiterated by Education Secretary Leonor Briones is not a “one-size-fits-all” and should be flexible and responsive that could cater the schools’ populace and making sure that no child is left behind regardless of alternative learning modalities.
Cantilan 1 and 2 Districts as stated on their respective LCP utilized the two-way Modular Delivery Learning (MDL) meaning learners could access modules in print version and digital (asynchronous) way.
The purchased digital materials will be donated to respective schools of both districts and recipients are the marginalized learners in every school to ensure that no child is ever left behind in learning in these trying times . Through this initiative, learners can access learning and supplementary materials in digital form such as videos of the lesson in each subject area.
Mayor Carla Pichay always reiterated that this digitalization considered top-notch aside from other modalities. “Children would really learn best if they could watch videos on screen due to the fact that learners of today are considered digital natives, it would be futile to utilize the printed modules without being digitalized” remarks Pichay.
Schools Division Superintendent, Madam Josita B. Carmen, CESO V supported too Mayor Pichay. According to Supt. Carmen, “Personally, I do not believe that print modules can hold the interest of the learners”.
As the School Year 2020 – 2021 started, Cantilan schools are already embracing this milestone as the SEF realignment made possible. Through this digitalization of learning materials to aid the learning of the learners, truly amidst this global health crisis, they can continue to provide quality, accessible, relevant and liberating basic education for all, aligned to Sulong EduKalidad Framework of DepEd.
